Abbeville is in 2a but there are 3 teams in 1a with more students .I know Abbeville had rather be in 2a but just wondering how they did not get placed in 1a .
All 3 are lower state, could be the need for more 1A slots down there. Regardless, I am very happy to stay in 2A.

1A Abbeville would never lose. 2A will be fun to see match ups between Clinton, Chester, and Abbeville in the playoffs.

Here's a map of the proposed 5A schools. I took a shot at dividing them into regions. I ended up with 8-7-7-7-7-6-6-6.
Good review, but I don’t see them splitting up Summerville and Fort Dorchester. Also Wando and James Island were previously grouped with Goose Creek, Stratford, and Berkeley. I see them grouping all of them together again.
Or maybe they'll use I-26 as the dividing line.

Berkeley, Cane Bay, Stratford, Goose Creek, Lucy Beckham, Wando
Summerville, Ashely Ridge, Fort D, Stall, West Ashley, James Island

Either way, I see two 6 team regions in Charleston, Dorchester, Berkely counties. I've revised the map to two regions, north and south of I-26.
That seems like a more viable option.

Pretty crazy stat: *55% of the state champions over the last 4 years are now in 4A!

Also, 5A has 54 teams and two championships, presumably one bracket with 32 teams and one with 16. 4A has 46 teams and one 32 team bracket. Meaning: 70% of 4A will make a 32 team playoff vs 90% in 5A

I take Daniel over anyone, but this system itself is wild! Also they have completely stripped 3A. The drop off from 4A to 3A is an all time high.
are you saying we are going back to two divisions of one class!?😳🙄

How can we have any type of accurate numbers with the supposed statewide school of choice that is allegedly going to be in effect next year? If that’s the case a school like Powdersville could change significantly. Kids from Carolina and Easley will be lining up to get into Powdersville esp Easley kids. Many of them have to drive past PVHS to get to Easley. PVHS is pretty much located where 3 counties come together (Anderson, Pickens, Greenville).

My opinion.....5A Regions
This cuts down on uneven regions (8-8-7-6-6-7-6-6) and maintains more natural rivals for Greenwood and West Florence.

Region 1
TL Hanna
Woodmont
Greenville
Hillcrest
Mauldin
JL Mann
Easely
Greenwood

Region 2
Wade Hampton
Boiling Springs
Riverside
Eastside
James F Byrnes
Dorman
Gaffney
Spartanburg

Region 3
Catawba Ridge
Clover
Fort Mill
Indian Land
Nation Ford
Northwestern
Rock Hill

Region 4
Dutch Fork
Chapin
Irmo
Lexington
River Bluff
White Knoll

Region 5
Blythewood
Lugoff-Elgin
Westwood
Ridge View
Spring Valley
Sumter

Region 6
Carolina Forest
Conway
Socastee
St James
North Myrtle Beach
Myrtle Beach
West Florence

Region 7
Stratford
Cane Bay
Goose Creek
Lucy Beckham
Berkeley
Wando

Region 8
RB Stall
Ashley Ridge
Fort Dorchester
West Ashley
James Island
Summerville

Yes.
One 5A classification for Regions but come playoff time schools will divided into 5A Division 1 and 5A Division 2.
Similar to the previous system when we had 4A D-1 and 4A D-2.
Playoff qualifiers will be separated by enrollment numbers.

This is how I organized them. Same as Tiger84.

The map below except move West Florence to the Beach region.

The 5A charleston regions are going to end up almost identical to what they use to be when it was just 4 classifications....minus Colleton County and Beaufort in the Summerville Region. The more things change, the more things stay the same you could say.

Good ole SCHSL no clue what they are doing!
Some of these schools moving up are going to have a rough time in region play.
