Hey Darth Rebel. How have you been? It is great to see you posting on here. I haven't heard from you in forever!!!! I was wondering the same thing about how the football playoffs will work. Beaufort's Region now has only 4 teams in it. I know with 6 teams in the Region the top 4 made it but now with only 4 teams I wonder how many teams from the Region will make it? Anyone know????

GO BEAUFORT EAGLES!!!!

I haven't heard anything, but it should be interesting considering all the different sized regions and their odd distribution around the state.

I posted my stab at a solution a few months back. < Click here > Don't expect the HSL to choose anything resembling that.

So in 5A, any region winner from regions 3,4,5, or 8 can go 4-6 or worse and still be a number 1 seed?

Welcome to the logic of the SCHSL.... I'm all for rewarding a Region Champion, but sometimes it can be weird. I'm going to make it even worse that your 4-6 Region Champ. A 1-9 team could actually get into the playoffs. In a 5 team region, let's say Clover is 1-9 and the only team they beat was Fort Mill and Fort Mill goes 1-3 in the Region. Clover is in due to the tie breaker of Head To Head.

To be fair, with the distribution and locations of the 5A schools, I don't have a better way to match up the Regions to make them even. Only thing I could think of was maybe moving a team or two back to 4A that should be in 5A and moving a team or two from 4A to 5A. Maybe moving someone from the Upper State down and Lower State teams up would balance things out.

The smaller schools in 5A know they don't have a chance in the playoffs beyond the 1st or 2nd round. Their schedules are dictated by "gate" and travel..... period.
