The schedule should allow a team to progress to the point that they are ready for region play not beat them up (physically and mentally) so they can't compete once region games hit. <snip>

Americans love an under-dog because we were one in 1776 and we love a good David vs. Goliath story(AppState vs. Michigan), it's part of our culture.
Yeah, what he said.

Facts are Facts......See the 2018 HS Football Schedules for NW, RH and SP below. Compare for yourself and comment accordingly....Major difference in schedules for RH and SP compared to NW........SP changed their schedule for a reason....RH was smart in scheduling Chester and Indian Land --- While RH lost to Chester on the road, it created very interesting LOCAL match up and hopefully strong gate ticket receipts.......Indian Land is growing like crazy and had a very strong new Head Coach......It is interesting why NW would put together that rough of a schedule........

Northwestern also has a very physical Sumter team on the schedule which was not played in 18 due to a hurricane if I remember correctly. Sumter also won 10 games in 18.

TheTruth, with a moniker like that maybe you should enlighten us.

Why is that the Principal is the only one saying anything publicly in support of Coach Martin? When in 2018 was the AD quoted in the Herald acknowledging the difficult schedule and the work the NEW coaching staff and the players were putting in to get better every week? When has she commented on support of the coach during the most recent allegations?

Did strength coach get removed by the HC or did he request a transfer?

Under whose leadership does a strength coach work? HC or AD? Would you want to try to lead an organization where your “boss” is married to one of your “subordinants?”

Also, you seem very knowledgeable about NHS sports recent history. Baseball won a state championship recently, but what other NHS teams have won an upper state or state championship in the last nine years AND are revenue positive?

Schedule was made really 3 yrs ago. Probably one issue NW had w scheduling is the fact that they are in a 5 team region. Having to find 5 games can be difficult and at the time they were pretty dang good. A lot of teams out there (lower tier) that probably didnt want to put them on their schedule. Cant see people knocking SP door down to play them either, but SP is in 6 team region, and being 4A NW/RH fill 2 nonregion games, so they only have to fill 3 games. agree though if they should try to lighten the non-region schedule some but if you survive it you have already played the best in the state

-Good discussion about scheduling but please try to avoid these subjects devolving into a personal nature.

SCPrepTalk appreciates the passion that many of you have for your school and understand your desire to vent when your team is not meeting your expectations.
However, we do not want this FORUM to become a place that is known for bashing coaches and/or administrators.

Posts that have criticism are fine. Disagreements will occur, but try to avoid getting to a personal level in regards to coaches/administrators and even other posters.
-These posts are subject to being locked, edited, and/or removed.

Those questions and/or concerns would be better expressed to representatives of the school district in question.

Good Luck to your teams.
Thank you to everyone that posts here.

I maybe totally wrong; however, I do believe football schedules are put together on a 2 year basis. This is done based on the two year Region Realignment Review by the State HS League based on school enrollment numbers.

NW's 2019 Non-Region schedule is noted below. Compare it to SP and Rock Hill also listed below...........I did read the site owner's comments earlier in this thread. The site owner also commented about "not beating your team up before Region play begins as it relates to the MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL aspects of the game........FACTS ARE FACTS........Who planned the NW non-regional schedule together is a legitimate topic and should be allowed to discuss.....If this is not allowed, go to Palmetto Football Talk......No Issues there......

NORTHWESTERN 2019 NON-REGION SCHEDULE:

South Pointe, Byrnes, Dorman, Ridge View, Sumter, Dutch Fork

SP 2019 NON-REGION SCHEDULE:

Northwestern, Rock Hill, Nation Ford, Greenville, Indian Land

ROCK HILL 2019 NON-REGION SCHEDULE:

Sumter, SP, Chester, Indian Land, York

The schedules are definitely on a two year contract. NW schedule was NOT worked out 3 years ago! The AD replaced South Meck last Spring with Dutch Fork. Spartanburg & Gaffney were replaced with Ridge View & Sumter.

South Meck 3-8
Spartanburg 3-8
Gaffney 11-2

Still a tough schedule, but 2 wins out that mix turns down the fire for what was still a new coaching staff and young/inexperienced team. O-Line were all seniors, but did not have freshman or JV teams to play on coming up.

as far as scheduling, it's the coaches job to schedule, not the A.D.'s. The A.D. discusses possible match ups with the coach, but should never just schedule on his/her own.

Also, the A.D. should not have a hands on approach to any of the sports teams unless something is wrong. The COACH coaches the team and runs the day to day. The A.D. schedules the buses and takes care of the logistics.

We are getting into an era where the A.D. tries to do too much, get too involved, I guess to justify their big salaries

Hire the coach, and let the chips fall. The A.D. is not a master coach that should be advising the coaches on how to do it, they are for support IF needed.

As far as going into the coaches office after a game and fussing at the coaches about the teams performance, completely unprofessional and wrong, and should have been addressed by people higher up than the A.D.

I'm surprised anyone wants to work there under these conditions. You cannot micro manage a football program, and that includes parents, A.D.s, and Principals. Hire the best man for the job and let them go to work
