Game by game playoff implications

Post by Rebel-Fan-74 »

There are a couple of threads talking about Region II tiebreakers and who is where but I looked at other games as well. Take a look and add comments discuss possible alternatives to my thoughts. If you have questions I will attempt to answer them if they are technical questions and if they are about my opinions I’ll tell you how I came up with the comments.

I woke up this morning, that's a positive!
Right now I am vertical, on top of the grass
and I don't hear harp music! All good things!

I believe if Bs beats Byrnes then BS get 3, Byrnes get 4. They will be the only two region teams with two losses, so its pretty cut and dry.

What has changed that now allows regions to have 5 teams in the playoffs?

The upperstate has two 8-team regions and two 5-team regions. It's even more complicated than that, I think. Anyway, someone made a bracket out of that, I'm not sure how. Somewhere, sometime, I suppose that someone figured out the odds and set up a standard bracket for such a situation. The idea would be that there might be a logical way to set it up to be the fairest it can be.

I will annotate the upper half of this excellent post

T L Hanna
Woodmont
Region Championship on the line (Doodles has Hanna by 35, Massey has Hanna by 33)

Easley
Laurens
Easley win, they are likely #4, Laurens win they could squeak in the playoffs (Doodles has Easley by 8, Massey has Easley by 1)

Greenwood
J L Mann
Greenwood is #4 with an Easley loss and #5 with an Easley loss (Doodles has Greenwood by 34, Massey has Greenwood by 33)

Wade Hampton
Westside
Westside is #3 unless Wade Hampton shocks everyone (Doodles has Westside by 12, Massey has Westside by 30)

Boiling Springs
Byrnes
Byrnes win, they are #2 in the Region, Bulldogs win, and it gets wild (Doodles has Byrnes by 10, Massey has Byrnes by 15)
Wild = If Byrnes beats Boiling Springs, then Byrnes ties Dorman and Gaffney for region champ at 6-1.

Gaffney is 3rd because Dorman would win the 3-way tie scenario at 6-1 in Region.
in a tie between Dorman, Byrnes, and Gaffney.
1. Dorman
2. Byrnes (due to Head to Head over Gaffney)
3. Gaffney
4. Boiling Springs

If Boiling Springs beats Byrnes, then Dorman and Gaffney are tied for region champ at 6-1. Boiling Springs and Byrnes are 5-2. Head to head determines both

1. Gaffney
2. Dorman
3. Boiling Springs
4. Byrnes

Dorman
Riverside
Dorman wins

Gaffney
Spartanburg
Gaffney win, along with a Bulldog win, and Gaffney is Region Champs (Doodles has Gaffney by 18, Massey has Gaffney by 19)

Hillcrest
Mauldin
Vikings are interested in this game as they need help to make the playoffs (Doodles has Toss-up, Massey has Hillcrest by 1) Great rivalry matchup!!

Fort Mill
Clover
The battle for the basement

Nation Ford
Chapin
No playoff implications

Northwestern
Rock Hill
Region Championship on the line (Doodles has Rock Hill by 1, Massey has Rock Hill by 1) Another great rivalry game!!

Irmo
Sumter
Sumter win, they are Region Champs. Irmo win and they could be champs (Doodles has Sumter by 20, Massey has Sumter by 19)

Blythewood
Spring Valley
Blythewood win along with an Irmo win, three way tie and I have no idea (Doodles has Spring Valley by 2, Massey has the same)

Chapin
Nation Ford
No playoff implications

If Gaffney and Dorman are in a two way tie for first, the Gaffney wins the tie breaker, not Dorman.

In the event of a three way tie atop Region 4, the tiebreaker will consist of a coin flip between the three teams, the loser of the coin flip will get the 3 seed, and the winner of the head to head between the remaining two teams will get the 1 seed.

So, NW is one win away from a region title and a #1 seed with a first round home game.

Beating RH will be tough.

GO TROJANS!!
