My thanks to gridcoach for the info he submitted. i have a similar list which came from an issue of the "Palmetto Education Association Bulletin." Coach, do you have other information on the formerly all black high schools which might not relate to football?"

Haut Gap High School Johns Island
Maroon/gold(school colors)
Rattlers(mascot)
Last graduating class was 1970. Haut Gap was changed to a middle school and St. Johns became the sole high school.

Carver = Spartanburg
Sims = Union
Bryson = Simpsonville and Fountain Inn
CA Johnson = Downtown Columbia
Booker T Washington = Downtown Columbia
Westside = Anderson




the afro american high school in Summerville was the Alston High School
Tigers. The school became the junior high school after intergration and is now the middle school for Summerville.
The new high school in Summerville is the Ashley Ridge "Swamp Foxes" the school will open this fall along with the other new high school in Summerville (but it is in Berkeley Co). They are the Cane Bay High School "Cobras".

Geer-Gantt was the AA school for Belton (and possibly Honea Path) but it was in Belton. Transitioned to Belton Middle School later.

BERKELEY BLACK SCHOOL WAS BERKELEY TRAINING
