Thanks for the great post DeCav. And thanks for posting those pictures. That was a long ride home and a late night for all of us. I had to get up this morning and double check the results just to be sure that I wasn't dreaming. I have no clue as to where and why Dillon got such a bad reputation. Their fans were fantastic, very informed, and in tune with every play on the field. I did not see any tensions on the field all night long. What a class act the entire Dillon crowd was. And their team was equally as classy.

Respect was everywhere last night. Not fear, but genuine respect. It showed on the field, and in the stands. I can't think of a single place in the state, where I would rather see a big game. The atmosphere is fabulous there. Nothing for either team to hang their heads on in that game. 2 very evenly matched teams. If I had to pick out what I thought was the difference in the game, the one thing that tilted the game our way, it was our size. Athlete for athlete, these 2 teams were equal. We just kind of wore there defense down with our superior size during that second half.

Congratulations to everyone. What a wonderful game and what great people. On to C-Town to tend to some unfinished business. Looking forward to seeing some old friends and meeting some new ones.

I admired you guys for hanging out after the game and congratulating some of the Beaufort players. Dillon is a class act, no doubt. It is really easy to win, and especially to win a lot. It takes special people to accept defeat with grace and class. Dillon and their fans are all of that, and more.

I almost forgot to mention this, but when we arrived at the game and were in the line of traffic, a local Dillon Policeman came to my car, knowing that we were from Beaufort because of my Beaufort High Car Flags, and was super polite and accommodating in getting us inside of the White Walls. He indicated that some of the local residents were not very kind to visitors. It is the small things like that which mean a lot to most of us. Super impressed and I told him as much.

And thank you for introducing BEF and myself to the Living Legend from Dillon, Coach Jackie Hayes. I have been fortunate to meet some of the legendary coaches in this State. Big John, Chuck Jordan from Conway, Mickey Wilson from Myrtle Beach, Moose Wallace from Northwestern, Dr. Brown from Berkeley, Chuck Reedy from Goose Creek, and many others. I was fortunate enough as a young man, to be brought into the Clemson dressing room and meet Frank Howard. Football is such a wonderful sport and so many great people give so much to make it great. I feel honored and humbled to have met Coach Hayes last evening. I am sold as a lifelong fan of Dillon High after last evening. Thank you to everyone for making our trip so memorable.

Dude, Penguin and BEF are not guilty of hyperbole!

The game was a blast but the fans made the night! And the post game atmosphere was as gentile and respectful as it could be. Truly it was like a scene from a great sports movie. I don't know what they're doing down in Beaufort and Dillon but those fans and players really have it going on when it comes to the spirit and meaning of competition.

I'd say, yeah that's a great stadium to see a football game, but the facilities didn't make the night. It was the people. I think every stadium is a great place to see a football game if the fans and players are as smart and sportsman like as that. Penguin will tell you, I had to comment about how smart both crowds were. Very punctual cheers and rants and great comments to be heard all over. Jimmy will tell you that I got pumped up and got into some of the chanting as well. Extremely infectious. No wine and cheese people last night! And I had my Cavalier cone to cheer with also.

Can't wait for next Saturday to see all of the low country there to cheer for Beaufort and Fort D! And SF BandDad will have to introduce me to some more South Florence fans.
