Grey Ramsey was never the OC over at Spartanburg the playing calling has been done by Brad McAbee. I have been told the JV Qb maybe the most talented QB on the Spartanburg roster. The early starter at QB should be okay they just need to have a run game behind him because against Dutch Fork, Byrnes, and Gaffney the Vikings ran the Qb more than the running backs.

Spartanburg had probably the best defense in the state.

The freshman running back #40 who had a great season is really gonna open some eyes this fall

I was under the belief he was a sophomore. The starter #3 is he returning?

I hope he isn’t like the last freshman back Spartanburg had that left and transferred to Byrnes which confused me.

He followed a group trying to rebuild a AAU team that is now leaving Byrnes.

Nope only a freshman and actually led the team in rushing by a substantial margin ( according to MaxPreps ) , Ironically that RB that left is now in GA and by all accounts all the main players returning have left Byrnes.

#3 graduated.

That's pretty good leading team "in rushing by a substantial margin" and not being the starter. Sometimes Maxpreps info is wrong but I saw him against Gaffney and he ripped off a nice run.

I thought kid would be at Westside with the Bomar family and friends.

I saw him a few times and he will definitely be a household name this season.

Nope he is in Ga, somewhere in the ATL area if I'm not mistaken. Speaking of Westside I think they got more than a few Byrnes players.

From what I hear from a Spartanburg Middle school coach, a Spartanburg Assistant has taken the Head Coaching job at the new Charter school Mountain View Prep and is taking most of Spartanburg players with him.
Grey Ramsey (Spartanburg OC) will be the HC at Mountain View Prep. He must be taken junior high players with him. I can't see any of Spartanburg's outstanding returning starters following him there. He was terrible as the OC last year. That was the worst offense i seen at the Burg in a loooooong time. Good luck to him but i don't see that happening.
Agree no one is going anywhere. I keep telling everyone this years team has a chance to be special.
Well this will be the third year in a row that the team was supposed to be special. Jeter and his crowd were supposed to be special until the got boat raced like a JV team by DF. Last year, Hodge even said he felt the same about that team as he did his great teams at Chapman. So here we go again.
DF can send you guys photos of what practice looks like during the week of Thanksgiving. DF has about 8 or 9 starters returning on offense and 7 on defense with backups that had a lot of play time last season....looks promising, but regardless how DF starts....got a feeling we all know how they finish. Will send the Vikes photos of Thanksgiving week football practice this season.

Fear The Fox...
Spartanburg would gladly accept photos from the practice DF had before the matchup with the Vikes last year!! :D

Spartanburg was a good team until their starting QB got injured. The second half of the season proved it. Just like DF was awful the first half of the season when their starting QB was injured. Significant injuries can destroy a good team.

Correct, and the JL Mann game especially proved it. With all the pieces returning and a much more experienced o-line, the Vikings should be one of the favorites.

Yes TJ may have been the better QB but he just could not see over the lineman and down field well. I liked Trey also, he did his best and his worst( JL Mann int inside the 5).

If TJ is moving to RB I would suspect he will have a lot of competitive peers. I don't see him in the slot, he's too good on his feet...which leads me to my biggest fear...
⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️

A two QB system. It very, very, very rarely works especially over the course of a season.

-----------------------------
I won't miss Ramsey.
He deserves a job somewhere.
Good for him. Good for Mountain View Prep or whatever.

Yes everyone knows DF is good.

Keke plays for Douglas County in Ga. He didn't start and still avg almost 12 yards a carry BUT he doesn't play for Spartanburg or Byrnes and there's a reason why.

Having said all this.. I think I pretty much covered everything I read on this thread, lol.

I trust Hodge. I believe in Hodge.

Let's Recap the last two decades.
Freddie Brown set Spartanburg football back a decade. Miller won Quick and tried his best.

And I'm pretty damn sure Hodge is in this for the long haul but he has rules. Some kids just won't make it. They do not possess the social skills & maturity to be held accountable for knowing right from wrong and still choosing wrong.

Accountability. That's a wall that inner city kids, todays generation both black & white don't like. He tries to tear down those walls with relationships and beliefs. Iron Sharpens Iron but... Rust Never Sleeps.

I'll take Hodge winning and losing as every team does while turning out kids that hopefully at the very least change some young men to young adults.

Deebo Samuel does not play in the Super Bowl, NFL, or South Carolina without Hodge.

This Beacon Spicy Livermush with Egg, Cheese and light mayo on a bun that I'm eating right now (watching the rain outside this restaurant) wasn't built in a day and neither will Spartanburgs Football Consistency.

Everyone is worried about this year, this kid, this coach, this game, this season,etc..

I wanna be able to look back and say that year, that kid, that coach, that game, that season...with pride and appreciation for a job well done over a number of years.

I love this city. I love this school. It changed my life when I was 8 at Snyder Field.
It Changed my life at 44 when I lost everything including the girl who had been by my side since I was 10 yrs old.

Those players held me and cried with me.
..and every one of those players held her. That's where my heart lies everyday.
.....Not just on Fridays.

Now I'm over half a century old.
The PTSD has gotten a lil more manageable.
My love for her, this team , this school has only grown.

#ALWAYSAVIKING

I'm sorry for the ranting/short story/ramble
My apologies, I'm slightly manic. I haven't been on here in a while. Meds haven't completely kicked in yet.

I miss a lot of things in life.
But I still buy two tickets to every game in every stadium home or away to make sure Spartanburg always has an extra fan.

I'll never miss that moment.

Peace,..
