Wando Finalist Announced

Post by MillHill88 »

After speaking with a board member and sports report David Shelton, these are the names I’m hearing for the Wando job.

Eric Bendig (Current Philip Simmons HC)- Leading candidate.
Jacob Poston- (Current DC at Hanahan) Has ties to the Citadel and Wando administration.
Joey Still- (State Champion OL coach at Fort Dorchester, current OL coach at Goose Creek)
Joe Marion- Former Stratford HC, current DC at Goose Creek. Former Stackley and Hayes disciple.
Dickie Dingle- (Former Wando HC)
Mitch White- (Former Stall HC with deep ties to Wando)

Same dingle from summerville? If so that guy would be early 70s .
Some of those cats have 28 plus years in state retirement system .are drawing .
According to our handbook.
an SCRS or PORS retiree earns more than $10,000 in
a
calendar year from covered employment, their retirement
benefit stops for remainder of year. • The annual earnings limitation is increased to $50,000 for some retired
SCRS members who retired on or before April 1, 2019, and return to
covered employment in the
K
‐12 public education system. If
a retired
member is otherwise subject to the earnings limitation, all other
employment remains subject to the regular $10,000 earnings
limitation.
A retiree may only qualify for this increased earnings
limitation for
a maximum period of 36 consecutive months of
employment.
• The retirement benefit will be reinstated the next January or
when retired member terminates all covered employment.

So I'm not quite sure how that would work.
Unless they sign some kind of contract to be paid as a non state employee. Which I have seen in other state jobs.hired as consultants ect.
Quite interesting .

Bemdig would be on the new scrs plan with the 45 90 rule .so he will be in the system a while.

Double dipping in retirement is common in SC. Lots of that up here by us. Also, Wando just started advertising this job on SCHSL website and SCFCA group communications. My guess is the list of coaches interested is just getting started. The majority of the best coaches in the state are going to be looking to win a state championship over the next 4 weeks so I wouldn't be surprised if jobs posted over the next few weeks aren't filled at the very least until after playoffs. I have never understood schools who look to fill their positions with the playoffs still going on. I understand posting jobs and beginning to vet candidates, but you got to think a lot of quality coaches are going to be coaching for weeks to come.

I knew there was some DD wasn't sure how that worked for schools. DD2 split the coach and ad jobs to prevent DD .not sure about ccsd .but agree it will be weeks.

That was fast. Looks like a solid list of candidates. Why would the PSHS coach want to leave. Something going on there?

The name Dickie Dingle once made a morning radio show laugh for 3 hours straight. Those are facts.

Wando going to announce new head coach prior to Christmas break. Pretty certain it will be Bendig from Phillip Simmons. Information came from school board member.

No way Bendig takes that job. Wando has no football class, and you can't compete in 5A without one. It would also be a huge pay cut for him. Wando is one of the worst jobs in the state, just slightly better than Stall. They don't care about football at all.
